Biography
Elsa Hewitt is a producer, songwriter, composer and multi-intrumentalist based in the UK. Following many years of songwriting exploration and refinement, her journey as an electronic artist properly began when she started making beats and remixing her own songs in 2014. Hewitt was awarded the Lynsey de Paul Prize in 2016 and welcomed into Brownswood’s talent discovery program Future Bubblers in 2017. Since then she has developed a deep and deceptively experimental sound that is rich in subtlety and authenticity over the course of seven albums in five years. With a boundless approach to merging elements of dance, ambient, sound art and songwriting, Hewitt’s ever-evolving sound remains centred by her earthy voice, artistic sensitivity, songwriting style and incisive poetry and lyricism. Her official releases began with her trilogy ‘Cameras From Mars’, ‘Dum Spiro Spero’ and ‘Peng Variations’, which were followed up by a series of distinct yet interlinked philosophical worlds; Quilt Jams, Citrus Paradisi, Ghostcats and Lupa, each one holding its own tones of joyful beauty and abstract darkness. In 2020 Hewitt began producing improvised ambient pieces, broadcast live on Netil Radio. Her latest album LUPA symbolised the end of one era and the start of a new one. Hewitt has since been reflecting, recalibrating and resting, whilst steadily building a new body of work, and completing the album that was initially set to follow LUPA.
