Biography
In the early '90s, Dublin, Ireland native Marcus Lambkin moved to New York, where he ingrained himself in the club scene as a DJ with a number of residencies. It wasn't until 2006, however, after he had moved to Stuttgart, Germany and aligned with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy for a party dubbed Shit Robot that he began producing and remixing under that name -- a reference to Murphy's poor drawing skills. From April 2006 through March 2010, Lambkin released four left-field house singles -- mutations of electro, deep house, classic Detroit techno, and old-school rave -- on Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy's DFA label. He also remixed tracks by Dondolo, Kaos, Simian Mobile Disco, Idioma, and the like-minded Juan Maclean. Unsurprisingly, the output raised Lambkin's profile as a DJ, and he began to gig all over the planet. This all culminated in the first Shit Robot album, From the Cradle to the Rave, which was released on DFA in September 2010. The next few years found Lambkin DJing, doing remixes, and releasing another Shit Robot single, "Teenage Bass"/"Space Race," in 2012. The next full-length, We Got a Love, came out in early 2014 and featured appearances by Nancy Whang, Reggie Watts, Luke Jenner of the Rapture, and Chicago house legend Lidell Townsell. Lambkin did remixes for Prinzhorn Dance School and Tippy Toes in 2015, also issuing the "Rishi" single in collaboration with Kai P and Rino S. The next Shit Robot album, What Follows, was released in May of 2016 and featured guests like Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, Patrick Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem, Nancy Whang, and Juan Maclean (who also mixed many of the album's tracks). ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
