Biography

Cloudbelly began back in 2017 when Corey Laitman (they/them) and Anand Nayak (he/him) saw each other perform in Easthampton, MA. An instant affinity with and trust led to them working together on Corey’s 2018 release “Seafoam”. By late 2019 they had begun recording new material in between other projects. Then came the pandemic. 
 They began working remotely on a life-raft of new material Corey was mining A new sound started to emerge. A “kind of unashamed musical truth” (Annie Patterson, author of “Rise Up Singing”) with “layers of purity and decay... like something that unfolds and constantly reveals itself.” (Dave Chalfant of The Nields) 
 The collaboration felt more like a creative partnership than a typical artist/producer project. They choose the name Cloudbelly in honor of a dear, departed parakeet. They made a music video and began releasing two or three songs a month through bandcamp. 
 Most of 2021 was devoted to finishing an album’s worth of material, getting reacquainted with live performing and expanding into a quartet. 
 Now, working with Signature Sounds Recordings, Cloudbelly is beginning again to bring their music to the world. Flight feathers are coming in and the sky is opening.
