When I got off the train, I stood outside The Garden for you
And I stood there waiting until you came into view
And when I saw your face, my heart was beating out of my chest

We had our jerseys on, we were finally together at last
I was so excited to see you again after months had passed
We wanted to go in and see our boys, Vesey and Skjei

I know we missed each other a lot
But seeing you there was so much nicer than I thought
The way I saw you smiling at me
It puts me on top of the world, and I'm the best man I can be
This was our day in New York, but we had one goal in mind
We would spend a few hours with people of our own kind
After trying to see some players, we got off the streets
And at the puck drop, we were at the edge of our seats
Chris Kreider made it 1-0, and at the end of the first, we led
Then the third frat boy, Hayes, and we had scored again
But by the end of the game, overtime was minutes away
And then it went to a shootout, we hope Hank won't give way
The first round, we're up by one
But the second one came, and we thought we were done
Then Shatty went to center ice
And he skated down, hoping he wouldn't roll the dice
As we were watching both those teams
I was sitting next to the girl of my dreams
And though we've only just begun

Then the final buzzer went off, and I turned to you and smiled
And I looked in your blue eyes, and just got lost in them for a while
And we walked around, seeing everything we could see
With your hand in mine, we were as happy as we could be
Although our time that day was short
I wouldn't have changed it at all; we were watching our favorite sport
And then we had to say goodbye
I watched you walk away as you tried not to cry
And so our day in New York had come to its end
Hoping it wouldn't be long until we see each other again
But for now, we wait from 200 miles away
All I can think about is how happy we were that day
