Biography
Taco was born Taco Ockerse in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1955. After finishing high school in Brussels, he moved to Hamburg and embarked upon a career in theatre, appearing in high profile productions such as West Side Story, Chicago and Sweet Charity. In 1979 he founded his first band, Taco’s Bizz. By 1981 he’d signed his first recording contract with Polydor whereupon he released his version of ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ by Irving Berlin, which became a global hit peaking at number 4 on the US Hot 100. The subsequent album ‘After Eight’ picked up Gold certifications around the world. He went on to release four more albums, ‘Let’s Face the Music’, ‘Swing Classics: In the Mood of Glenn Miller’, ‘Tell Me That You Like It’ and a final self-titled record ‘Taco’, ranging in style from contemporary dance music and synth pop to swing and soul. He returned to acting between 1989 and 1996, appearing in starring roles across stage and screen. Taco made his grand return to the world of music in 2021 with the release of ‘Heavy Metal’ and continues to record and release new material.
