Biography
Los Angeles-based and Miami-born, Kori James navigated his way through the foster care system after losing his mother at an early age. Finding comfort in a variety of musicians and genres from Sarah Vaughan to BabyFace and from R&B to folk, Kori allowed the music to shape his musical palette which gave birth to his love for songwriting. 2012’s ‘Write On, Kori’ found the singer/songwriter crafting a sound of his own out of his many influences. However, it was 2016’s “Tomorrow” EP that solidified the sound for James, who acted as both the executive producer and songwriter for the project. The effort landed him on the front page on Huffington Post naming him 2017’s Artists To Watch. Kori went on to score co-writing and co-production credits on “What’s The Matter, Brik?” by R&B singer/songwriter Brik.Liam. Released under PJ Morton’s (Maroon 5) imprint, Morton Records, the project debuted at #1 among iTunes’ top R&B albums. James partnered with 4-time Grammy nominated singer/songwriter, Tiyon ‘TC’ Mack, for an effort that would act as a prelim to a new era. “Words With Friends: Volume 1” showcased a more polished sound in both writing and production style. James doubled down and invited several more upcoming and promising independent artists for Volume 2, fully writing and producing the effort. The EP debuted at #5 among iTunes’ top R&B albums. With plans for more collaborative projects, Kori James shows no sign of slowing down, but heading full speed into the 2020s.
