Biography
"Jstar is an original don. Early Dj that helped inspire the Major Lazer crew! Bad man!” - DiploJstar has been celebrated for his back catalogue of over 150 dancefloor gold, official and unofficial, reggae and hip-hop remixes for the likes of Blackstreet, Gang Starr, Busta Rhymes, Major Lazer, Madness, DJ Vadim, Mark Ronson, The Black Seeds and more. Growing up and DJing in London under a haze of reggae, rave, funk & hiphop led to substantial work as producer that has been widely acclaimed by the likes of Mixmag, David Rodigan, Norman Jay, John Peel, Grandmaster Flash and The Clash’s DJ, Don Letts. Since releasing his ‘Licensed Plates' LP, and studio albums ‘Stand To Order’ and ‘Dub To Order’, Jstar continues to push boundaries and styles by working with artists across the globe including China, Malaysia, New Zealand & Canada. Jstar has performed at hundreds of festivals and clubs over the years including Glastonbury (UK), Splore (NZ), legendary club 'Space' in Ibiza and often features as tour DJ for vocalist Soom T. “My highlight of the last few years was playing at Exit Festival to 10000 people with Dynamite MC after The Prodigy”. DJ residencies included Rootikal (London) with David Rodigan & Earl Gateshead, The Big Chill, plus shows at seminal London clubs such as The End, Plastic People & Heavenly Social. “... always good to have a J-Star moment ... like it.” - Daddy G (Massive Attack) “the Jstar touch works for me every time!’ - DJ Andy Smith
