Biography
DeWayne Woods has served as background vocals coordinator for some of today’s biggest talent. Woods was also afforded the opportunity to showcase his versatility as an artist singing lead vocals on two albums with R & B legends, Atlantic Starr. In addition to being a member of the award winning Tri-City Singers, Woods has backed some of Gospel’s finest like John P. Kee, Kurt Carr, and Karen Clark-Sheard. In October 2006, Woods moved from behind the scenes to center stage with his debut project Introducing DeWayne Woods & When Singers Meet - the first release from Donald Lawrence’s Quiet Water Entertainment under the Zomba Gospel umbrella. The project surpassed industry expectations selling thousands of units and garnering five 2008 Stellar Award nominations including Song of the Year; for the single “Let Go”, written by P.J. Morton, New Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Urban Inspirational Single/Performance of the Year, and Recorded Music Package of the Year. Woods turned four of those nominations into Stellar gold, receiving the coveted statue for New Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Urban Inspirational Single/Performance of the Year. To add to the already amazing evening, Morton also took home the Stellar Award for Song of the Year. Introducing DeWayne Woods & When Singers Meet has peaked at #5 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums Chart and the first single “Let Go” rose to #4 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs Chart.
