Biography

Khirki is a three-piece band from Athens, Greece sharing its essence with rock 'n' roll and traditional music of their place of origin. Κίρκη - Κírkē pronounced [kírkɛː] - was a sorceress in Greek mythology best known for transforming Odysseus’ crew into animals with her magical wine. Inspired by the mythological enchantress, after reaping the grapes of metal/rock culture (Kvelertak, Mastodon, Tool, etc.) the band has created an original, sweet tasting drink, properly aged in many live stages, served in 2021 with their first full-length album "Κτηνωδία". The debut album features a cohesive set of songs, mostly fast-paced and uplifting. Whether it is the punishing blows, the infectious mood swings or the tribal-like dancing chants, "Κτηνωδία" dives deep into an original sound heavily inspired by Anatolian and Balkan folk music. Orchestrated with the help of acoustic and traditional instruments to further bring out the seducing folk atmosphere; but also heavy at heart so that the metal riffs and beefy tones remain intact when delivering the “message”. The album was recorded by Theodore Zefkilis at Sca Studios (Rotting Christ, Planet of Zeus) in Athens from Autumn of 2019 to Spring of 2020.
