Biography

Laura Barrett first played music publicly with a kalimba cover of "Smells Like Nirvana" at a "Weird Al" Yankovic tribute concert. Since then, she's released two albums and two EPs, scored three feature films (two in a duo as Laura Barrett + José Contreras), and provided musical underscoring for many an episode of long-form narrative improv comedy. She likes to ask questions about what humanity is up to and where we're headed, even when there are no satisfactory answers. Career highlights: • touring internationally in The Hidden Cameras • supporting The Magnetic Fields on a North American tour • a residency at the iconic Honest Ed's discount department store • collaborating with SlowPitchSound in a hologram music festival (Women From Space) Selected Press: • for Who is the Baker?: "otherworldly, imaginative" - NOW Magazine • for Victory Garden: "refreshingly original [...] Barrett at her loopingly operatic and orchestral best." - Exclaim!
