Biography

What’s more classically American and deeply nuanced than a cross-country road trip? Go Home is like one of those powerfully memorable road trips given musical form. This makes sense given that the key band members collaborate over great distance. Kai Carlton and Hunter Boyer create their music from, respectively, the streets of LA and the mountains of rural North Carolina. The duo are childhood friends from the Piedmont region of North Carolina, they grew up with roughly the same musical influences and teachers. From there their paths diverged widely, Kai traveled across the country to attend school in California and Hunter climbed up into the mountains to continue his musical education. Despite the distance between them they remain the best of friends and evidently they maintain a powerful relationship in their music as well. Over 2,000 miles separates these two but does little to stem the tide of their creative output and does nothing to spoil the quality of the music. The listener can feel these places present in the music. The urban and the rural are deeply entwined in the lives of these two and the result is stunning. In genre terms the pieces most closely resemble something between indie rock and grunge. Kai’s vocals are fresh and raw, they blossom and combust miles above the driving rhythm of Boyer’s guitar. The guitar pieces are minimal without being simplistic, dynamic without being jarring. Go Home is a reflection of two people with their fair share of troubles.
