Biography

After a decade of silence, there is finally new music from Small Sins, the pet project of Canadian writer/performer/producer Thomas D’Arcy. Back in 2006, Small Sins was the first project that brought D’Arcy significant attention from fans and critics. A live version of the band was formed, and the next five years were spent touring North America and releasing two more albums. Unfortunately, interest in the project faded, and in 2011, D’Arcy announced he would no longer be releasing material under the Small Sins moniker. Now, over a decade later, D’Arcy has resurrected the project. The new album, curiously titled ‘Volume II’, takes off from where the first album left off--as if ‘Mood Swings’ and ‘Pot Calls Kettle Black’ never happened. Similar to artists like Beck's releasing a sequel to ‘Sea Change’ years later, D’Arcy continues his journey down a musical path once travelled, but not far enough. Volume II employs the production techniques of the original self-titled Small Sins album, with deceptively simple synth lines alongside orchestral flares and layered vocals. It is music you could dance to or sleep to. It is a unique hybrid that seeks to connect on an emotional level. It is Small Sins, Volume II.
