Biography
'Daring' and 'different' are two words that describe Ayat's music and stagecraft. Aside from being one of the few artists to consistently perform in his native Hausa language, Ayat has carved a niche for himself in the alt-African music scene with his genre-bending style – one which can best be described as a fusion of trap, Afrobeats and Alternative. Combined with an energetic performance style and unique visual aesthetic inspired by greats like Salif Keita and Fela Kuti, it’s perhaps unsurprising that mainstream audiences and music heavy weights alike have started paying rapt attention. Still independent, Ayat nonetheless boasts an enviable list of collaborators. He’s worked with artists such as Sarkodie, Manifest, E.L, Edem, Medikal and Suli Breaks. Production credits have come from the likes of KaySo, Nova, Kuvie among others. In 2017, AYAT released his debut ‘The Zamani EP’ to rave reviews, and has currently released the first single off his upcoming official album ‘Aisha's Sun ’, slated for 2022. The single, '@Guda ’, was accompanied by a music video that trended online for three consecutive days upon its premiere and won Overall Best Video at the 2019 4Syte MVA.
