Biography
Piney Gir has recently released her 7th album "You Are Here." From her debut release in 2004 through several albums and incarnations, Piney has evolved and deepened her trademark sweetness-with-strychnine aesthetic. She has gained substantial critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase. Musically, You Are Here draws a lot from David Bowie’s Berlin trilogy using a vintage effects box called an Eventide, which is all over "Low." The album is inspired by art-pop with horns like Roxy Music and twisted, playful sounds like The Flaming Lips. The previous album from Piney was "mR. hYDE’S wILD rIDE" and featured a different approach, layers upon layers of synths, drones, riffs and melodies, but this time Piney left spaces in the tracks, adding angles and unexpected juts, even points where things just drop out. She says, ‘It's a pretty weird time for artists right now, it's a pretty weird time for everyone. I think art thrives in a difficult environment and this album taps into our collective experience; I think You Are Here has a Zen, mindful quality to it celebrating rebirth, happy times. I didn’t want to surrender to darkness. The album has a fighting spirit to it.’ Piney has recently toured the UK, Europe and USA supporting Gaz Coombes, and she supported Ride on their unplugged tour; she also sings backing vocals with Noel Gallagher & Gaz Coombes.
