Biography
Big Shoals has been staking their claim as a serious band and playing their own mixture of rock & roll, americana and folk music since 2012, when lead song writer Lance Howell moved to Gainesville, FL in search of a new start. They released their debut album, "Still Go On" in April of 2014 to great reviews and went on to tour and play shows with such notable acts as Patterson Hood of the Drive-By Truckers, James McMurtry, John Moreland and Joe Pug among many others. They released their sophomore album, "HARD LESSONS" July 15th 2016. Hard Lessons was cited as one of the "50 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2016" by The Revue. Upon it's release it began receiving high praise in the critical world, with NO DEPRESSION stating, "Big Shoals should be in equal plane with the Isbells and Stapletons, it’s Americana’s Americana. " "They are the antithesis of all the current Americana bullshit." Since the release of Hard Lessons, the core members of the band have moved away from Gainesville. Lance Howell currently lives in Tulsa, OK and Jacob Riley resides in Ann Arbor, MI and has started his own side project as Jake Riley & The Social Workers. Like the characters in Big Shoals' song, the band perseveres. Visit www.bigshoalsband.com
