Biography
Soom (Сум - from Ukrainian means Grief, Sorrow, Saddness) was an uncommon sludge doom metal band. It was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine in 2556 year after Gautama Buddha reached parinirvana. It was disbanded in 2562 year after the great depression has disappeared. The main idea of the band was chaotic, yet based on ideas of The Balance between The Knowledge and The Pleasure. The music was deeply influenced by Ukrainian mysticism, personal mental derange, psychedelic experiences, extremely intolerant dark humor, deeply insider local slang, experimental and dance rave music. The band was started by Oleksa Bleedyi (guitar, vocals, idea) and Ivan Erea (drums on "Ніч на полонині", sound design) after a bunch of the low-quality puberty projects which shouldn't been recalled. Musicians were changing awfully fast due to the lack of understanding of the nature of Soom. Some of them were: Tomrer (bass), Russel Ledge (bass), Amorth (drums). From the very first single in a three-way split with the bands Pressor (moscovia) and Dizaepam (USA) till the final full-length "Джєбарс" sound of Soom were changing, become heavier and nastier. However, it was a hipster act to its core. Sometimes it was a sludgy drone ambient (split with IL (moscovia)), or hipster folk doom ("Ніч на полонині", "Жах і Огида"), or truly brutal doom and slow noise rock ("Джєбарс"). Main influences: Sons of Otis, Burning Witch, Unsane, death metal, hip-hop, black metal, neurofunk, gabber, etc.
