Biography
"Lyrics sharper than a box cutter, hooks as sweet as grape soda" has been The Extensions’ tagline since their early days. 4 years, 2 lineup changes and 1 pandemic later, The Extensions return with "High Charisma," a new album that proves lead singer/guitarist Brian Erickson just might have known what he was talking about after all. Previously described as the estranged power-pop love child of Spoon and Elvis Costello, The Extensions immediately shattered those comparisons with the release of lead single "With a K," which UK music publication The Rodeo called a slice of modern disco. The latest single "My Turn" pulls in an entirely different direction, thrusting backing vocalists Lisa LoVell and Becca Cristino into the spotlight. "Echoing The New Pornographers, or perhaps even some indie pop version of The Band" (Rebel Noise, 2023), the song garnered over 30,000 streams in its first month on Spotify. Self-reflection, social media, driving, and local music scenes are all fed through the buzzsaw of Erickson’s pen and delivered with a deadly blend of wit and panache. Musically, "High Charisma" takes indie rock’s best impulses, [weaves] them together with some Prince, some early 70's McCartney, and [lands] right on top of it (Pirate, 2023). The end result more than lives up to The Extensions' billing as one of the most dynamic indie rock bands the Jersey shore has to offer (Asbury Park Vibes, 2023).
