Biography

Striborg originally began in 1993 under the name Kathaaria. Taken from the Darkthrone track ‘Kathaarian Life Code’, although it really refers to the word catharsis which has always been a spiritual obsession for sole member, Russell (Sin-nanna) Menzies. 
1997 saw the name change to Striborg in which the direction shifted slightly to incorporate dark ambience and power electronics. 
Striborg’s international exposure started in 2003 with the help of local label, Asgard Musik. During the following years a prolific amount of albums were released through Displeased Records with two titles licensed for a US release via Southern Lord Records. Subsequent collaborations occurred with Sunn o))) members as Pentemple as well as artists, Oren Ambarchi, Marco Fusinato and Xasthur. In addition The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra & Australian Art Orchestra. Striborg has been featured in two documentaries including One Man Metal with contemporaries, Leviathan and Xasthur. Live performance has been more frequent with the arrival of Mona’s Mofo and Dark Mofo festivals. 
In July of 2017, Striborg had an epiphany to create a new genre = Blackwave (BLACKmetal/darkWAVE) which takes aesthetics/elements from BM such as the atmosphere, themes and vocal style in addition to mixing it with the music/aesthetics of darkwave, synth pop, electro, EBM, witch house, techno and dark ambient music. 
Veil of Darkness is a dark ambient side project. 
On the 20/10/21 he was diagnosed with ASD.
