Biography
Always difficult to pigeon hole, Her Name is Calla sat somewhere between light and shade. Post-rock and folk. Heartbreak and apocalypse. Formed in 2004, Her Name Is Calla played intense, emotional guitar-rock, categorised by T E Morris's haunting and distinctive vocals and Adam Weikert's musical ambition. The band's remarkable use of dynamics and atmosphere often found audiences silenced by both the brutality and intimacy of the music and lyrics. Since their debut album The Heritage, they endured a vigorous touring schedule that saw support grow from a local to an international and almost cult-like fan-base. The Quiet Lamb (2010) saw the band’s appeal and attention grow through support from BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, and Xfm amongst others. After a hiatus which would have destroyed most bands, 2014 saw the release of their 3rd studio album, ‘Navigator’. The reflective and biographical album was well-received but lacked the attention of their previous record. 2015 saw the band celebrate a decade together with the short documentary/soundtrack A Wave Of Endorphins. After several tour dates and festivals in 2016, the band closed out the year with a 7" release on the Leeds based singles label Come Play With Me. They also contributed a cover of The Blue Niles iconic track Let’s Go Out Tonight for the Torch Songs project led by the UK charity CALM. Her Name is Calla released their final album, Animal Choir, at the end of May 2019, disbanding the same day.
