Biography
Born Julian Jeanmarie, the 21-year old Brooklyn native Jufu was unsure of what his future would look like, but he wasn’t afraid to try his hand at whatever caught his attention. Growing up, the Haitian-American MC initially held a strong interest in becoming a meteorologist. Later he found a passion in music after taking guitar lessons when he was 9 years old, developing a fascination with the ability to create sounds from scratch. He attended Edward R. Murrow High School - home to Joey BadA$$ and the Pro Era rap collective - and joined the school’s “Music x Technology” program in 2015. It played a huge impact in his artistry, fostering his interests in music, teaching him the fundamentals of filmmaking and harvesting the idea of the importance of how his social media hobby can supplement his musical aspirations. Jufu joined Vine when he was 13 to make comedy videos because he was in a competition with his friends. When Vine discontinued, he moved on to Musical.ly & TikTok, still making comedy and parody videos, but starting to combine his knowledge of filmmaking, music and music technology into his creative output. He began dabbling in music and recorded a 15-second song specifically for the platform with an original video. The follow-up track, “Who R U,” became an instant hit, not only going viral on TikTok but also used by celebrities such as Will Smith and Steve Harvey. In 2019, Jufu signed to Island Records and in 2020 he released his EP, Get Used To Me.
