Biography

Roju is a six piece modern nu-metal band from Finland. The band's music is a blend of old era of nu-metal mixed with metalcore, djent and modern metal. The band started as the experiment of the former singer Joni Karjalainen and the guitarist Joni Nuortimo. Juha Janttonen joined their ranks as the bassist and they released their first song titled "Calamity". "Calamity" was thought to be a one-off release but the positive reception from the listeners around the world confirmed that they were doing something right. The band was officially formed in the midst of the Pandemic in 2020. Soon after Topias Muhonen was scouted to play the drums and the band released their second single "Mind Exit". New music soon followed and the third single "Event Horizon" saw its world premiere on Finland's biggest heavy music radio channel Radio Rock. Roju released their first EP "NIL" in 2021 and continued to gain listeners with their new releases. The band was cited as one of the most promising newcomers in a poll by Kaaoszine, one of Finland's most prominent metal music publications. The band was finally ready to hit the stages when guitarist Tero Loponen and DJ Roope "R-Cut" Juola joined the band. Roju parted ways with their original singer, Joni Karjalainen in December 2022. In the beginning of 2023 Tuomas "Tsuomasu" joined the band as the new lead singer. The band is currently working on new music and playing live shows with the updated line up.
