Biography
Formed in 1995 in a New Brunswick basement, Ensign emerged as one of NJ’s most prominent and hardworking bands. Always at a pivotal point of not being in sync with the changing times around them, Ensign toured relentlessly, endearing themselves to a large following of fans bridging both the punk and hardcore scenes. Too negative for the youth crew kids, too positive for the hate-core kids, too punk for hardcore and too hardcore for punk, they in turn found a gray area to exist within. There have been countless member changes in the 25+ years Ensign has been around, however the pairing of vocalist Tim and bassist Nate has been the most consistent. With Tim’s signature vocal style and Nate’s continuous songwriting, Ensign managed to maintain a common thread throughout the years. Ensign has shared the stage with bands like Rancid, Avail, Hatebreed, Sick Of It All, Good Riddance, AFI, the Suicide Machines, H2O and countless others, reaching many a shore and grassy knoll. Ireland, Europe, UK, Japan, Korea, Australia, England, Canada and the continental United States are all places Ensign called home at some point or another for days, weeks and months of touring. To date, Ensign has released 3 ep’s, 3 albums, 5 splits, a punk/hardcore covers album and are rumored to have recorded new material in 2015. While never having officially disbanded, Ensign has not performed live since 2017. Presently, Tim sings for the band Fuck It... I Quit, and Nathan plays bass with Dead Ending.
