Biography
The Mississippi Blues Trail passes right through Jackson, Mississippi and the city would be immortalized in a song popularized by Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Inspired by notable Mississippian’s such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Elvis Presley, Camino pours that history, that pain, that joy, and so much more in his skyscraping soulful pop. The singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist introduces this sound on his 2021 EP debut, Burning Fire [Def Jam]. Following an initial aspiration to rap, he moved to Atlanta and endured homelessness for nearly a year. When he couldn’t sleep at the studio where he worked, he slept on the bus bench outside. After orbiting the B.o.B camp, he landed a deal with international icon Akon. “I lived in his house and drove his Ferrari for six months,” he laughs. “I thought I made it.” Eventually his music caught the attention of the major labels. Camino released the 2017 single “Riot” and quietly generated over a million Spotify streams. Following a regime change, he found himself label-less and broke in Los Angeles. However, the songs he carried with him caught the attention of Def Jam and led to a deal in 2019. “It took a little while to find my home, but I did,” he goes on. “The story really starts now.” “I want my music to be an escape from reality,” he leaves off. “My songs have saved my life a bunch of times. There’s always hope. There’s always a chance, especially if you’re willing to put in the work."
