Biography

The pop group Voice Of The Beehive was led by sisters Tracey Bryn & Melissa Brooke Belland. Tracey started writing songs, & when she & sister Melissa sang together they called themselves The Beehive Girls. They came in search of recently split Madness band members Mark Bedford & Daniel Woodgate, who, with Mike Jones & Martin Brett formed Voice Of The Beehive, taking the name from a Bette Davis film. The band recorded initial demos, releasing their first singles "Just a City", "Say Nothing” & "Walk the Earth", earning favorable comparisons to Blondie & the Bangles. They recorded their debut “Let It Bee”, which scored U.K. hits with "Don't Call Me Baby" & "The Man in the Moon". Their bold debut album had a sunny exterior of sparkling indie guitars, an energetic rhythm section & lyrics that reveal both hope and an occasionally cutting cynicism. 91's Honey Lingers also proved successful, notching the hits "Monsters & Angels" & "Think I Love You". They returned to California to begin writing new material, resurfacing with the cathartic “Sex & Misery”. The album's first single, "Scary Kisses," earned Voice Of The Beehive their biggest American hit to date. The end of 2022 sees the 35th anniversary reissue of “Let It Bee”, one of the 80s era defining albums, released on London Records. The celebratory album includes previously unreleased material & live sessions. The album also includes the track “Cartoon City”, available online for the first time.
