Biography
Michael Rumbi is an alternative R&B and Afro-indie songwriter and producer. He performs under the stage name “M. Rumbi”, where he explores love across genres and styles. A largely internet and self-taught creative, he has sharpened his skills over the years, and his self-led journey shows in the occasional eclectic and avant-garde sound across his discography. Projects such as “Not All That”, “See Me. Si Me” and “Bright Outside” show his versatility and flexibility in both writing and production. Over the years, his sound has evolved both deepening and broadening, and has led him to form various alter egos to not clutter and confuse his fanbase. Rapping under “City” as one half of the creative duo “BasicCity” and producing under “theNairobiNomad” he has created enough room to produce music first and pick genres second. A big supporter of collaborations, M. Rumbi works with creatives all around the world, and this is well seen in his discography. He is a big supporter of the idea of “Community over Competition”. “This jazz, soul and RnB-influenced hip-hop with positive energy is reminiscent of crooner Anderson Paak, although his influences revolve around The Roots, FKJ, Tom Misch and Uyama Hiroto.” Mr. Rumbi: groovy rap and lots of spirit by Pan African Music , October 29, 2020.
