Biography
Michaela Slinger is somewhat of a spirituality skeptic, but her sister convinced her to have a FaceTime session with a psychic in 2021, who foreshadowed the following year and a half of songwriting and travel that led to the creation of her sophomore album 'This Can’t Last Forever'. Slinger is a Vancouver-based pop singer-songwriter and “legendary songbird in the making” (MRG Group). The new album is “sonically ambitious […] and infectiously joyful” (RANGE Magazine), and was written between Vancouver, Nashville, Los Angeles, and Toronto with collaborators including Khalid Yassein (Wild Rivers) and Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen). Concerned by the pressure to constantly produce content, Slinger embarked on a 19-show self-booked North American tour to promote her record the “old-fashioned way”. It seems that strategy is working—she was hand-picked to open for Dermot Kennedy at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage, graced the cover of Amazon Music's 'Fresh Folk and Acoustic' playlist, was spotlighted SiriusXM's Poplandia 'About To Break' program, and featured on CBC Music’s ‘Songs You Need To Hear’. Slinger’s command of the stage showcases a unique blend of stop-you-dead vocals and unexpectedly hilarious stage banter. Slinger is arguably a singer-songwriter first, and a pop artist second. The title ‘This Can’t Last Forever’ is ultimately a statement of fact—the sole, inescapable condition of living that she works to accept on this new record.
