Biography
Calle Kristiansson is a Swedish pop singer who rose to fame on the television show Idol in 2009 and made his smash hit eponymous album debut shortly thereafter. Born on July 5, 1988, in Kristianstad, Sweden, he was the second-place runner-up on Idol 2009, finishing behind another 21-year-old rocker, Erik Grönwall. Over the course of the season, Kristiansson performed the classic rock songs "Highway to Hell" (AC/DC), "Here I Go Again" (Whitesnake), "Are You Gonna Go My Way" (Lenny Kravitz), and "Rock and Roll" (Led Zeppelin). He also performed some lighter material like Elton John's "Your Song" and Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual" but was most impressive as a rocker. His version of Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" was featured on the various-artists compilation Det Bästa från Idol 2009 released near the end of the season. Shortly after the final episode of Idol 2009, Kristiansson made his eponymous album debut with an 11-song collection of rock covers. Calle Kristiansson spent several weeks at number two on the Swedish albums charts, kept out of the top spot by Grönwall's eponymous album debut. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
