Biography
Lazee, birth name Mawuli Kulego, was born in Malmö, Sweden. 2008, his first single ”Rock Away” produced by iSHi and Swedish House Mafia was released. It became an instant hit and entered the charts in the Spring of 2008, before its official release. It ended up in the top 10 official charts and rotated frequently on all the major Scandinavian radio stations and MTV Nordic (120 spins a week). It was also no.2 on iTunes and caught the ear of Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit who flew Mawuli out to LA to make a remix. The debut album, ”Setting Standards” was released later the same year and was an even bigger success gaining Mawuli 4x Grammy and MTV Music Awards nominations. At this point it was clear that Mawuli wasn’t just an artist, but an entertainer. The second single from the album ”Hold On” became his first international hit. Gaining a lot of notoriety in the UK, it had major rotation on British radio stations and became a DJ favourite. In 2009, success of the track brought a nomination at the Urban Music Awards in the UK for Best Collaboration. In 2010 another one of Mawuli’s hit singles ”Calling Out” becomes his 3rd number 1 single on iTunes Sweden for several weeks and made him an ambassador for a Swedish Charity Organisation called BRIS (Children’s Right In The Society). It is now the signature song of the organisation and Mawuli is an occasional volunteer at the call centre where teens get a chance to share their issues.
