Biography
Bobby Rush is an 86-year-old Grammy winning Blues, Soul, Funk and R&B artist with the energy and performance style like he’s in his prime. Rolling Stone calls him "The King of the Chitlin' Circuit" for his constant touring and vibrant live show on a circuit that has been home to Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, and James Brown. Mainstream recognition came when he earned his first Grammy nomination for his 2000 album Hoochie Man He later won a 2017 Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album for Porcupine Meat. Sitting on Top of the Blues, his 26th studio album is certain to extend his winning streak, and promises to further spread the news that this revered legend is bigger, badder and bolder than ever. Bobby Rush has earned 12 Blues Music Awards, including B.B. King Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year. He co-starred in the 2014 documentary Take Me to the River alongside Terrence Howard, Snoop Dogg and Mavis Staples. That same year, he had his late-night TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He was the first bluesman to perform at the Great Wall of China, attracting over 40,000 people. In 2006 he was inducted in the Blues Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone named his 1979 LP Rush Hour one of the Top 10 Blues albums of the 1970s. Songs he wrote have been recorded by an array of artists including Wyclef Jean B.B. King, and The Staple Singers. In 2019 Dolemite Is My Name came out on Netflix starring Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes, with a cameo by Bobby Rush.
