Biography

Love in the time of pandemic threatened to tear relationships apart but also brought people closer together. For Samica, her new EP Laurel Canyon, speaks to the yearning for a forever love.
A first-generation Indian-American, Samica was raised in a musical house. Both her grandmothers were singers, and her mother was a classical Kathak dancer. Though surrounded by traditional South Asian music at home, she was heavily influenced by listening to Top 40 radio, and began writing songs at a very young age. She has been steadily increasing her fan base on TikTok, due to her hit series The Lazy Girl Series, Spotify, Alternative R&B and Pop stations, and performing Youtube cover songs, which have been shared by original artists Jesse Reyez, Marshmello, and Lizzo.
Samica’s newest EP, Laurel Canyon, aims for an organic alternative pop-country sound, drawing inspiration from Amy Winehouse and artists from the 70’s like Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Nicks. Like a romantic comedy, the story begins with a woman longing for her lover in the catchy heartbreak song, “Strangers at Heart,” followed by her ode to long-distance, “Last Lover for Life,” whose more upbeat rhythm charms the listener to sing along. “Another Life” is the gorgeous beginning of this tale. Samica has created a love story for the ages—a soundtrack dedicated to the ups and downs of young love in Los Angeles.
