Biography
“…the finest young British female singer-songwriter to emerge over the last 12 months” UNCUT Magazine In 2003 in her garden shed, 28-year-old Paulusma finished her debut album ‘Scissors In My Pocket’, a work of aching acoustic tenderness which immediately received worldwide plaudits upon release in 2004. Paulusma was catapulted around the world, supporting Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, Coldplay, The Divine Comedy and Marianne Faithfull; she toured the USA and Italy, played Glastonbury, T in the Park, and Cambridge Folk. Sibling album ‘Cosmic Rosy Spine Kites' followed in 2005. In 2007 Paulusma released 'Fingers & Thumbs', produced by Ken Nelson at Liverpool's Parr Street Studio. In 2012 she founded the Wild Sound label and released ‘Leaves from the Family Tree’; the folk label became a stable for 9 other indie folk artists, including Maz O'Connor and Mortal Tides. In 2017 Wild Sound became a folk imprint at One Little Independent. In 2021 Paulusma released ‘Invisible Music: folk songs that influenced Angela Carter’, springing from completed PhD research, and in 2022 Paulusma releases her eagerly-awaited fifth album 'The Pivot On Which The World Turns', fondly abbreviated to 'Pivot'. ‘…a vibrant, insightful tribute’ **** Guardian/Observer ‘…intoxicating’ BBC Radio 2 Folk Show ‘…one of the landmark releases of the year’ Shire Folk ’…among the brightest, most inspired and captivating voices of the British folk scene’ Rockerilla, Italy
