Joe Louis is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter whose developed a music project where boleros, folklore, alternative rock, jíbaro music (rural Puerto Rican music), vocal improvisation and queerness, meet. Joe Louis and the Oniric Band of the Red Door is a Cabaret that explores sensuality, while embracing an out of touch nostalgia and a melancholic essence, so present in a Caribbean that manages to survive in cruel political and economic system. “Experimental Bohemia”, he calls it, clearly conveying an intersection between the Art World and Performance Nightlife. The release of his first album, Lo Sagrado (December 2021), was celebrated with a concert at the iconic Victoria Espinosa Theater in Santurce, Puerto Rico. With an interdisciplinary background in Journalism and Theater, from the University of Puerto Rico, Joe Louis is certainly a Puerto Rican artist to watch for.
