Biography
Twenty years ago, Féfé & Leeroy made a name for themselves at the heart of the Saïan Supa Crew with Angela, the greatest melting pot hit of our age. Funny, hard-hitting, just libertine enough and as diverse as they were musically inventive, this joyful band managed to project – over the airwaves and on screen - the image of a diverse country, comfortable in its own skin. After they split in 2008, the members of the collective went their separate ways. Féfé released a winning trio of genre-busting solo albums (soul, rap, rock, reggae) and toured several times, even recording a duet with Eddy Mitchell. Not to be left behind, Leeroy delved deep into the music of Bollywood, celebrated Fela Kuti with an explosive tribute album and unleashed his own burst of projects, in which he pushed the boundaries between rap and French chanson with rare lexical subtlety. Never forgetting to get his friend Féfé involved. That meant they never had to log on to Friends Reunited to find each other again. Not only had that bond never been broken, but it had been strengthened over time, and thanks to the warmth of reciprocal admiration. “Whenever I heard Leeroy, I’d say to myself ‘what a talent!’” says Féfé with enthusiasm. “It’s simple: I don’t know anyone who can rap like him with his kind of craziness. It was in those moments that I started to dream up a joint project.”
