Biography

Alysha Brilla writes, produces and weaves together global roots sounds into healing music medicine; transporting listeners to her signature space suspended between the earth and the stars. 
 The love child of an Indo-Tanzanian musician and Canadian storyteller, Brilla’s music is a tapestry of Indian music, Reggae and global roots sounds. Themes of re-connection with ourselves, each other and the earth are woven into uplifting rhythms and soulful melodies Brilla brings to stages around the world. As an openly queer artist, Brilla's music and live performances celebrate inclusion and belonging for all. 
 Influenced by Toronto’s Caribbean community, her father’s Indian and East African Music and her mother’s folk heroes. Brilla's childhood home was alive with Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, Osibisa, Amy Winehouse and Bollywood Classics. In 2013, Brilla became one of the first self-produced female artists in history to receive a Juno Award nomination for her music. She has since then been a champion of diversifying genders on stage and in the studio. 
 Her new single, “Love” was mastered by 3X Grammy Award Winning Engineer Emily Lazar.
