Biography

Seen by its current members as less of a band than as a fluid, open-ended project, Hailaker (hay-ull-ache-err)’s principal members and founders are Jemima Coulter and Lowswimmer (Ed Tullett) (each solo musicians in their own right) who work between Bristol and Cardiff. Contributing alongside Coulter and Tullett are the Portland, Oregon-based artist Mike Roth and Ali Lacey of Novo Amor. Built around melodic, acutely-felt and poetic songwriting, their eponymous debut LP overflowed with texture and vocal layering, dense instrumentation and rousing choruses. ’Holding’, by contrast, constructs an open window through which the ideas of Coulter and Tullett take flight, the music stripped back to its component parts, revealing the anatomy of Hailaker's songwriting.
