Biography
Charlie Dore is one of the UK’s most respected singer-songwriters. In an unusually diverse career her songs have won two Ascap awards, an Ivor Novello nomination, both the Overall Grand & the Folk Prize from the International Acoustic Music Awards, while her 2017 album, Dark Matter won both Best Album & Best Lyrics from The Indie Acoustic Project. January 2021 saw her latest album Like Animals win her the FATEA Female Artist of the Year award. Charlie is one of a handful of writers to have success across many different genres, defined by the range of artists to have covered her songs, including George Harrison, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Lisa Stansfield, Paul Carrack, Ricky Ross and Jimmy Nail, notching up a UK No 1, a US no 4 + 10 hits in Germany, Italy & France. Her own single Pilot of the Airwaves is still on BBC Radio 2’s core playlist and remains a worldwide radio favourite. She has composed for three BBC drama series and two films. Charlie has also worked as an actress in theatre, film, the award-winning Ploughman’s Lunch opposite Jonathan Pryce, TV, radio with Eric Idle and co-founded London Comedy Improv venue The Hurricane Club, performing alongside many comedy icons including Bill Bailey, Stuart Lee & Robin Williams. She continues writing for & with other artists and enjoys mentoring emerging songwriters when not touring. 26/11 she released her EP The Man Who Built Christmas. Touring continues through 2023 as well as finishing Background Noise, her book of essays.
