Biography
Coram Deo Music is a consortium of worship musicians and songwriters based out of Coram Deo Church in Omaha, NE. The collective got its start in 2005 with the birth of a new church in Omaha, Nebraska. Local singer-songwriter Jared Strock signed on as the church’s volunteer worship leader and began to craft the sound of Coram Deo alongside fellow vocalist Judith Fox. As word got out, talented musicians began to find their way to the church; guitarist Micah Bruce, drummer Cody Bailey, and vocalist Megan Pettipoole were three of the early influencers who lent their talents to the growing team. Under the leadership of Bob Thune and Kendal Haug, a debut album began to take shape. Luke Pettipoole (The Envy Corps) agreed to produce the record, and in 2010, Doxology, a collection of retuned hymns, was released. Doxology was followed by Swallowed Up Death in 2015 and an original Psalms album in 2016; both projects were directed by David Potter. Coram Deo also released a digital-only Advent EP which took shape over multiple years. In contrast to modern “performance worship," Coram Deo’s music is grounded in the everyday rhythms of a particular local church. The songs and arrangements are tethered to the life of a flesh-and-blood worshiping community - and that rootedness is part of their appeal. By shunning commercialized homogeneity and capturing the songs and spirit of a specific people, Coram Deo’s artists and musicians continue to make music for the church, from the church.
