Biography

In 2015 melodist Ryan Flanigan stumbled into a songwriting partnership with poet-priest Nelson Koscheski. Together they wrote scores of new hymns, rooted in the spirituality of the holy catholic Church and the sounds of Americana culture, forming Liturgical Folk.
They teamed up with producer Isaac Wardell (Bifrost Arts, The Porter's Gate) to record the first 6 volumes of Liturgical Folk music.
Vol. 1—TABLE SETTINGS (2017)—sets the tone for the project with 12 lighthearted settings of service music from the Book of Common Prayer.
Vol. 2—EDENLAND (2017)—contains 12 hymns by Koscheski and Flanigan, teaching the astute listener how to live and die with maturity and faithfulness.
Vol. 3—CRUMBS (2018)—is a sequel to Volume 1, a devotional journey from confession through Eucharist into mission.
Vol. 4—LENT (2019)—consists of 10 new hymns, one for each service in the season of Lent. Featuring Lauren Plank Goans (of Lowland Hum), Liz Vice & Josh Garrels.
Vol. 5—ADVENT (2019)—sequels LENT and is based on the late Koscheski’s final collection of poems, featuring Resound, Audrey Assad & Sandra McCracken.
Vol. 6—PSALM SETTINGS (2020)—caps the 6-volume project with 10 new verbatim musical settings from the Psalter.
MATINS & VESPERS (2021)—family settings for Morning & Evening Prayer.
