Biography
Brian Lopez is a classically-trained guitarist and crooner-style singer from Tucson, Arizona. He is co-frontman of the Tucson-based Psych Rock/Cumbia band XIXA. He has been a sideman for many artists, including KT Tunstall, Giant Sand, Mexican Institute Of Sound, Orkesta Mendoza, and is currently touring with Calexico. Lopez began is professional career as the lead singer/guitarist for 3-piece prog-rock group, Mostly Bears in 2007. He went on to release his first solo album," Ultra" in 2011 to much international acclaim. Rolling Stone Germany called Ultra “Psychedelic chamber-pop with the surrealist touch of Dalí.” European tastemaker, Musikexpress, called Lopez “...the missing link between Devendra Banhart and Roy Orbison” and gave Ultra 4.5/5 stars. In 2014, Lopez released his sophomore album, "Static Noise," to more international acclaim – Musikexpress giving 4.5/5 stars again, exclaiming “Lopez is without a doubt one of the best songwriters of his generation.” In 2015, Lopez parted ways with his record label and manager, and put his solo career aside to focus on developing his new psych/cumbia band, XIXA. In 2018, Lopez independently released his 3rd album, Prelude, a 10-song lo-fi experimental album written and recorded in his bedroom during a 2-week period. Lopez's voice has been featured in many recordings including Amos Lee's "Windows Are Rolled Down" and KT Tunstall's album "Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon."
