Biography
Aïnhoa Arteta is a Spanish soprano who made her classical crossover full-length debut in 2009 with the Top Five hit album La Vida. Born Ainhoa Arteta Ibarrolaburu on September 24, 1964, in Tolosa, Guipúzcoa, Spain, she made her opera debut in 1990 in the United States. In the years that followed, she established herself as an accomplished opera performer with an international following. In 2009, Arteta made her classical crossover album debut with La Vida in association with Universal Music Spain. The album includes a selection of well-known international pop standards including Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven," Elvis Presley's "Love Me Tender," Jacques Brel's "Ne Me Quitte Pas," Ariel Ramírez's "Alfonsina y el Mar," the Beatles' "Michelle," and Silvio Rodríguez's "La Vida." Musicians featured on the album include Javier Limón (guitar), Danny "Melón" Lewis (piano), Horacio "El Negro" Fernández (drums), Dany Noel (bass), and Carlitos Sarduy (trumpet). From a commercial standpoint, La Vida was a big success that peaked at number three on the Spanish albums chart and spent nine weeks in the Top Ten. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
