You’d be forgiven for thinking that after all the success she experienced during her time as part of Irish touring phenomenon Celtic Woman that Mairead Carlin would be taking it easy, that’s not Mairead. While it takes character and guts to go solo at the height of a group’s popularity, after a Grammy nomination, five albums, three TV specials for PBS/Sky Arts, and becoming six times winners of Billboard World Artist of the Year, that’s exactly what Derry’s Mairead Carlin has done. Following the call of her intense love for the music she heard around her daily as a child, and reaching back to her roots in traditional Irish folk (her father was a renowned bassist in the Northern Irish town of Derry), with influences far beyond from Sandy Denny to Ron Sexsmith, 2023 is the year she starts all over again and takes her first steps with releasing her first solo EP.
