Biography
The Base were founded in 1989 in Graz. Seven years later, their first EP “Jet Crash Kills“ was released, followed by the longplayer “Ducks and Diners“ in 1999. Up to now, another nine impressive studio albums have seen the light of day. In 2018, the outstanding fusion live album “The Big Base Band“ with the Jazzorchester Steiermark was released. In 2019 the double album “Tribal Instincts“ was greeted with much critical acclaim (“full of dark beauty“, “a masterpiece“). And as it appears their 2022 release "Lick A Stone Kill A Fly“ will be become another listener´s favourite in the bands ever growing catalogue. Besides, The Base collaborated with film and theatre directors such as Michael Glawogger, Barbara Albert, Michael Ostrowski, and Hubsi Kramar. In 2009, they got a top-five nomination at the Amadeus Awards for “16 Songs in Self Defense“. Moreover, their music videos “Not My Dog“ (2008), “Scooter Boy“ (2013), and “Simoom“ (2020) received awards. To date, the trio has given about 600 concerts – gladly also together with guest musicians. The audience has always been enthusiastic, whether it be at the Grazer Scherbenkeller, the Graz Opera, the Spanish Riding School Vienna, Wiener Rathausplatz, the Burgtheater Wien, in Pitten, Los Angeles, London, or Sarajevo, and in many more places. The Base are always a delight.
