Biography
Bob Harris (BBC 2) “Brilliant!” Steve Bennett (Acoustic Magazine) "Imagine discovering a lost Arthur Lee classic from 1967. This comes close to that.” Rubin Pecknold "What would you say if I'd say that Alasca is the European answer to Fleet Foxes?” Chris Hawkings (BBC Radio 6) "Joyous positive nu-folk” AlascA are an indie folk-rock band from the Netherlands. Their critically acclaimed 2012 debut album, Actors and Liars, which was produced by Alan Branch, peaked at number nine in the Dutch charts the week after its release. It got the band led by singer-songwriter Frank Bond a UK record deal after which the debut album was re-released in the UK in 2013. Sophomore effort Prospero followed in 2015, and showed a diversified sound, taking influence from spaghetti westerns, mariachi, and obscure country. The group referred to this album's sound with the tongue-in-cheek label "European Country." The band's third record Plea for Peace was released in the fall of 2018 and showcased a blend of '60's catchiness with '90's grunginess. Singles from their three records received airplay on BBC2, BBC6 and Netherlands Radio 2. The band supported their releases with extensive touring in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and the UK. Highlight shows were played at the main stages of Paradiso Amsterdam, The O2 Academy and Dublin Castle in London, The Sage Gateshead Newcastle and Deershed Festival.
