Biography
The word ‘Astronaut’ originates from the two Greek words ‘Aestron’ and ‘Nautes’, translating to ‘Star Sailor’. A name that in all its simplicity encapsulates the energy of this 5 piece Danish psych-rock act. With intensely direct live performances across venues in Europe, Astronaut has slowly but steadily made a name for themselves as representatives of the romantic element of rock music with an ambience of psychedelic hypnosis, and lyrics of hard earned experiences, devotion and the frenetic yet healing love that moves us in unexpected directions Initially formed at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the band resides in Copenhagen, Denmark, where legendary radio host Carsten Holm has placed them on the top shelf of native indie acts, alongside bands such as Kashmir and Mew, leading to performances at some of the biggest festivals between recording new material. On the recording side, the band was invited to Mark Knoplers’ famous London studio ‘British Grove’ as a consequence of the growing attention in countries near Scandinavia. An ongoing recording relationship with Grammy winning producer Claudius Mittendorfer (Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Weezer, Johnny Marr) has led Astronaut to finalize their new album ‘KINTSUGI’ which will be released on March 24th, 2023.
