Biography

Brother and sister Gerald (Mac) and Kathleen Kissoon were both born in Port Of Spain, Trinidad and later raised in Great Britain. In 1965, they formed half of the Marionettes, a two man/two woman singing group produced by 50s pop star Marty Wilde. The siblings were later part of the Rag Dolls, while Kathleen also recorded under the name Peanut. As a duo, Mac And Katie Kissoon caused a minor stir in 1971 with the veiled anti-war song, ‘Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep’, which despite losing out to the more successful version by Middle Of The Road in the UK charts, it did reach the US Top 20. The Kissoons then embarked on a Euro-soul direction which resulted in two UK Top 10 singles, ‘Sugar Candy Kisses’ and ‘Don’t Do It Baby’ (both 1975), but despite further, lesser hits, their sweetened charm ultimately faded. Katie Kissoon continues to perform and record in her own right and guests with luminaries such as Van Morrison and Roger Waters.
