Biography
Violist, violinist and singer-songwriter Marla Hansen has been active as a performing and recording musician throughout the United States and Europe. As violist of the New York based string quartet Osso, she has toured and recorded with many artists including Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond, and she can be heard on Osso’s critically acclaimed 2009 record “Run Rabbit Run.” She was violinist in Jens Lekman‘s band for several years, with whom she extensively toured and recorded. Marla has also worked with The National, Kim Janssen, The New Pornographers, Inlets, Mocky, Denison Witmer, Oneida, The Hidden Cameras, DM Stith, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Clare and the Reasons, Duncan Sheik and Alice and Ravi Coltrane among others. In 2007, the Indianapolis-based Standard Recording Company released “Wedding Day,” a collection of songs for voice, viola and acoustic instruments. Marla also composed the score for the 2012 documentary film, The Other Half of Tomorrow, a film about women working for change in Pakistan. “Dust,” her latest record, was released on March 6, 2020 on the Karaoke Kalk label. A delicate but powerful blend of folk and electronic songwriting, “Dust” was recorded by Robbie Moore at Berlin’s Impression Studios, and features contributions from Barbara Morgenstern, Andi Haberl and Knox Chandler. Marla currently lives in Berlin, Germany.
