Biography
Like her influences Joni Mitchell and Tori Amos, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Mackenzie Shivers invites you into her world and empowers your soul. She began writing music when she was four years old and started piano lessons when she was five. In her songwriting, she underpins her classical training with an emotional essence that blossom together like bright buds as they bloom atop a proud and prolific tree. Her cinematic alt-folk release 'Rejection Letter' is a bold and brave expression of female anger, questioning the contemporary world, and the desire to help others feel less alone in their uncertainties and fears. The ten original songs on the LP were co-produced by friend and frequent collaborator, engineer and producer, Kevin Salem (Rachael Yamagata, Emmylou Harris, Lenka) and feature performances by Yuka Tadano on bass, drummer Cody Rahn and lush string arrangements by Oliver Kraus (Sia, Adele, Florence + The Machine). As with all true artists, Shivers’s sound is both constantly evolving yet instantly recognizable. Listening to her work leaves you in no doubt that you’ve entered the vibrant and imaginative world of its creator.
