Biography
Layth Sidiq is an internationally award-winning violinist, composer and educator and is the current director of the Arab Music Ensemble at Tufts University. Born in Baghdad and raised in Amman, Layth’s music is described as a ‘glimpse of the past through a futuristic lens’ and his album ‘Son of Tigris’ is a clear example of the unity between his Iraqi roots and Jazz, which led to it earning a performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2016. A graduate of Berklee College of Music (BA/MM), Layth has recorded on multiple Latin-Grammy nominated albums and has toured the world performing in prestigious venues with award-winning artists such as Jack Dejohnette, Tigran Hamasyan, Shreya Ghoshal, A.R Rahman and Gary Burton to name a few. Layth also plays a pivotal role in multiple ensembles including, 'Qantara ensemble' with award-winning artist Simon Shaheen, 'Global Messengers' with Grammy award-winning artist Danilo Perez and 'OQ' with multiple Latin-Grammy winning producer Javier Limon.
