Biography
Broadway Project is the pseudonym of one Dan Berridge, residing in inner city Bristol, England. Working primarily under his given name as a composer of Film and TV Scores, he splits his time with this much-loved work and "Broadway Project", which spans 20 years of freeform, oddball, irreverent and yet deadly serious beat making an electronic experimentation. Started "by accident" in 2000 after a cassette of demo's landed on the desk of a young Memphis Industries' Ollie Jacob who saw some spark of originality in the sample-strewn collage of beat driven ballads that took the name as an off the cuff joke at a late night lock-in in Tooting Broadway. After a publishing deal with XL and further releases for Grand Central Records, Berridge was approached by a number of film-makers to take his brand of cinematic emotion to the screen. Berridge has formed a deep and lasting collaboration and friendship with Matthew Bourne, who have "a form telepathic collaboration". Bourne helped Berridge in innumerable ways, but primarily he reinforced the idea that he had "an ear", and that as they say, cannot be taught. Berridge does not perform and currently self-releases both collections of "electronic film music", labelled "Film Works" and his own album projects, notably The City Breathes and //Bourne/Berridge/Bourne//.
