Biography
Danny and Alex are an American pop music duo, originally from St. Petersburg, Florida. After meeting in a middle school piano class in 2008, they immediately began writing and performing together. From 2008 to 2013 they recorded dozens of songs, played over a hundred live shows, and began sharpening their songwriting skills. In 2014, the two began self producing, engineering and playing nearly all of the instruments on their recordings. Influenced by The Beatles, Steely Dan, and Prince, the time leading up to 2018 was spent developing their own original sound and songwriting style. Their music uniquely blends pop with elements of jazz, rock, and funk. Lyrically, they gravitate towards hyper-specific themes, often with a touch of humor. 2018 saw the first official Danny and Alex release with the EP, “Grand Slam, Thank You Ma’am.” Among the tracklist was, “Who’s Been Smoking You Out?”, a 1950’s inspired song about heartbreak and marijuana, and their most popular to date. Following the EP, seven more singles were released, including “Breakup Haircut” and “4/4,” with total streams reaching over 9,000,000. From 2018 to 2020, they stayed active on social media, performing weekly virtual concerts on instagram live and attracting thousands of fans, referred to as “Chromosomes.” Following a headlining east coast tour of the U.S in early 2020, the Covid pandemic prompted the band to take a hiatus.
